My question is who decides who is a terrorist, and who checks to make sure the charges are valid? If this bill gets through the House of Representatives, and is signed by the President, the military will answer to no one. The only hope of short circuiting this bill …

Want to get rich? Get elected to the U.S. Congress. Recent revelations show that a lot of members of Congress came to Washington to do good – and stayed to do well. Very well. ... We'll keep an eye on HR1148 as it moves through the legislative process.
There has been ongoing speculation about the relationship about George Kaiser and the Obama administration regarding Solyndra.

I don’t mean to mock anyone and I’m not one to quarrel with the value of an education, but the content of that education matters. There is a big difference between an education and a degree.
Paul's plan: Get the Fed and the Treasury to rip up that debt. It's fake debt anyway. And the Fed is legally allowed to return the debt to the Treasury to be destroyed. A trillion and a half dollars is currently about what spending is expected to exceed tax revenue in 2011.
Mired in excruciating negotiations over the budget and the debt ceiling, President Barack Obama might reflect that things didn't have to turn out this way.
I've read a couple of your posts (mainly dealing with the deficit spending "Obama indicts himself as a failure. In his own words."). Your comments are very well thought out and seem to have some sense behind them. Thank you for that.
Ratpoisin, I saw your comment on First Read. I have only one comment-

You are clear thinking. You are concise.
Okay, I'll grovel. . .
We need more independent, individualists' voices.
I get that it can be a cesspool, but the more reasonable voices, the easier it will be to drain. . .
To the anonymous commenter... You've missed the entire point of the article and the purpose of the punishment. When you purchase a CD, you are bound by copyright laws not to distribute copies of the the contents. Because the lady uploaded music (assuming that she had purchased it herself) she has violated copyright law... and the penalty for it is clearly stated. This is vastly different from your "selling the gun" scenario because a gun is not intellectual property. The 1.5M punishment is silly, I've said as much, but you need to also remember that she uploaded 1,700 songs, only got sued for 24 of them and has been offered a settlement as low as $25,000 (the minimal penalty is $18,000) - and keep in mind that the fine range is $750-$30,000 per song. The lady is a fool for having not taken the $25,000 dollar settlement.
About the single mom with the illegal downlaods. First i will say i dont download music. Not as much for legal reason but for virus reasons. But I have even broke copy rights laws growing up. But even though she downloaded and uploaded music. You said it wasnt what she downloaded but what she uploaded. And the people who uploaded from her. So what you are trying to say basically, if someone sells a gun (her uploading music) The person who sells the gun should be liable if you break the law with that gun(people breaking the law, because she uploaded it) well why dont you take the 24 downloads she did, find the people who uploaded them. And then find out how many people uploaded from them and just keep doing this. eventually like 90% of the population will be in jail. Some for uploads some for downloads. I dont agree with stealing music or anything like that. I have downloaded things well not me, but a friend wanting me to check out some new bands. but i like buying things to support people proffessions. basically everyone who has a Burnt cd should go to jail. Here is an idea, Sue the people who actually make the Audio Cd's for you to burn. Bottom line is......1.5million is just rediculous. she is an idiot. She should of looked at $5000 as great even donating 25000 to charity is fair. But 1.5 million. You can not count her liable for how many people downloaded from her upload. if she didnt upload it believe me someone has, and it could still be found
I agree with you 100% ....we burn trash everyday .
